Berghain Klubnacht Closing

By December 1, 2017Media, Tableau

Berlin’s legendary club Berghain will turn 13 next week. Everything there is about this club was written down. It is the most well-known underground club that the whole world wants to visit. Berghain is currently on the crossing of budget airline mass tourism and Berlin’s gentrification. As a matter of fact, the Berlin local became a rarity in the notorious opening queue.

Nevertheless, Berghain remains a stable factor in delivering multiday raves with top notch resident DJs, an amazing sound system, a diverse crowd and a one of a kind atmosphere. The most prevailing question for the frequent visitor is “who is doing the closing”?

In this visualization we included all closing from Jan 2010 until Dec 2017 based on the berghain.de time tables. It only contains the Klubnacht events including Ostgut Ton Nacht, Berghain’s Birthday and Klubnacht Total a.k.a. the Sylvester party. Every artist is counted per alias, for instance: Luke Slater’s aliases L.B. Dub Corp and Planetary Assault Systems are counted separately. Collaborations between artists are also counted as 1 alias as for instance Zeitgeber is a separate artist and not counted as Speedy J and Lucy. Considering B2B closing we counted the artists separately, a Closing from Dettmann and Klock is counted for both. We conducted basic data cleaning and omitted some ambiguous artists as for instance “Alle die noch stehen koennen” (all that can still stand).

Have fun in selecting your favorite artists!
